Banner Grommets, Pole Pockets & Finishing Options Explained
Confused about banner finishing options? Learn when to use grommets, pole pockets, hemmed edges, and wind slits for hanging your vinyl banner securely.
How to Hang Your Banner: Finishing Options Guide
You've designed the perfect banner, but how will you hang it? The right finishing option depends on where and how you plan to display your banner.
Grommets (Most Popular)
Metal rings punched through the banner material, usually brass or stainless steel. Placed around the perimeter every 2-3 feet. Thread rope, bungee cords, zip ties, or hooks through them.
Best for: Fences, building exteriors, between poles, indoor hanging, trade show booth walls.
Pole Pockets
Fabric tunnels sewn along the top and/or bottom. A pole or rod slides through the pocket to hold the banner taut.
Best for: Hanging from rafters/ceilings, street pole mounting, between two fixed points, professional retail displays.
Hemmed Edges
The banner material is folded over and heat-welded along all edges. Prevents fraying, adds strength, and gives a clean professional look. At 48HoursBanners, hemmed edges are included free on all banners.
Wind Slits (Wind Vents)
Small slits cut into vinyl banners to allow wind to pass through. A compromise between solid vinyl and mesh for moderately windy outdoor locations.
Quick Decision Guide
| Mounting Location | Recommended Finishing |

| Fence | Grommets + zip ties |
| Between poles | Pole pockets or grommets |
| Building wall | Grommets + screws/hooks |
| Indoor ceiling | Grommets + S-hooks or pole pockets |
| Trade show | Grommets or Velcro |
| Outdoor windy | Grommets + bungee cords + wind slits |
